Passionate English Majors

Enrolling in an English degree program might not seem like the most practical of higher education pursuits. There is, after all, great demand for nurses, a need to fill a pipeline of future workers with science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) degrees. If you're considered underrepresented in one of these fields - a male nurse, for example, a female engineer or a biotechnologist who hails from a racial or ethnic background that's considered a minority - you might even expand your college and university scholarship opportunities.

Different people have different talents and interests, however. For those who are passionate about the English language, an English degree might be a more appropriate choice for college and university studies. Who is the typical student who pursues such a degree? According to an Illinois university, that student is likely to be one who is more passionate about education than those in degree programs targeted more toward vocations. Some view graduates with degrees in English as caring about more than the financial rewards in life and as appreciating literature's artistic worth as it relates to articulating human nature, the website for this university contends.
Some of the well-known former college and university students who studied English, or English Literature, include Edward Estlin (E.E.) Cummings, Reese Witherspoon, Joan Didion, George Plimpton, Elizabeth Bishop and Matt Damon. While these former students of English followed career paths within the arts - literary and performing - an English degree recipient-turned-entrepreneur who serves as chief executive officer of an Internet company suggests that innovation is a product of the liberal arts.
English programs are a part of the liberal arts. The entrepreneur and English degree advocate, in a 2006 edition of a publication produced by a Washington university suggested that, because learning itself is the focus of liberal arts programs, students are better prepared for life. He likened liberal arts students to the "Swiss army knives" of employees in that, through reading, they might come to better understand a wide array of people and situations and in that they tend to be "generalists" able to communicate, manage and adapt.
While studying English in college, the entrepreneur served as public relations writer for a museum. Graduating with his English degree in hand, he worked first as communications director for a college and then in production and marketing for Microsoft, according to the Washington university article in A&S Perspectives. He has since established a company that designs websites, publishes a corporate Intranet site and designs Internet software programs and applications.
Technology itself has changed the arts in terms of digital video and photography, even the way that English degree recipients-turned authors are read. Books, fiction and non-fiction, are also available on hand-held readers as well as in audio format for iPods. The Illinois university contends that English is the international language, which could enhance worldwide job opportunities for these degree recipients interested in teaching English as a Second Language.

English Class vs Language Arts in Education

Most schools do not put enough emphasis on the fine arts, namely, as an example--the art of language. In an English class the teacher will focus on reading skills, reading comprehension, grammar and vocabulary--but language arts is recognizing written word as an art form.
Yes we do want our students to study and master the English language. But the fine arts should be reserved as different kind of lesson, preferably in a creative writing class that is separate from English class. But every English class, if there is no specific language arts class required, should at least include a unit that focuses on the beauty and importance of literary accomplishments throughout the ages. Poetry, plays, song lyrics, screenplays, novels, from authors like Shakespeare, Dylan Thomas, Ken Kesey, Harper Lee etc.

Download Exam Drill of English Language for Senior High School

Language is composed of words--words carry specific meaning and sometimes carry double meaning. So the primary tool of language is words, another is sound. Words are, in combination with an almost musical goal, can show the transformation of words and basic communication into art.
The empty page means to the writer what the score of music means to the musician or singer. The empty page is the blank canvas, the untouched page in a sketchbook and so on, the empty page is--the thing that the any artist of the written word must make to come alive.
As I mentioned before, there is a musical aspect and technique to literary language that is hard to grasp without providing prime examples of it. The musical technique involved in the art of language is well exemplified by the works of William Shakespeare, but he is just one of many. The poem, when read silently or aloud. Whether it in written in iambic pentameter, as a sestina or in the more modern style of free form, the music should be there. For example in a poem by Dylan Thomas, the first stanza reads:
" Do not go gentle into that good night
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
The poem was written as Dylan Thomas watched his father lay dying, and there is a beautiful song here. Note the repetition. Note the syntax in which the words are used which is different than regular speech--there are articles like "the" or "a" that the author will drop--removed for the sake of rhythm. This particular poem is easy to find at the library or on the Internet, and I highly recommend it as a tool for any Language Arts instructor.
There is technique and beauty, form, use of syllables, pitch, pacing and sound even in prose. So demonstrate to your students the versatility of words.
If there is one thing I loved best about high school--it was what I learned in my Advanced English class, which was exclusive to the analysis of the literary arts.

Simple Math is the Key to Healthy Weight Loss

There is one simple to key to losing weight in natural and healthy manner, and that is by utilizing what simple math skills you learned in the third grade. Yes, that is correct math is the key to weight loss for any person. Certainly engaging in exercise on a regular schedule will thrust your results into high gear, but to lose weight anywhere from five pounds to fifty pounds you must apply simple math to get to your goal.

Download Exam Drill of Mathematics for Senior High School

The math theory in losing weight naturally is applied by creating an initial goal weight and how many weeks you are giving yourself to get to that goal. For example, if you are seeking to lose twenty pounds in six weeks then you would need to lose around three pounds each week. The average thirty old female that leads a fairly active lifestyle (fairly active being going to work, walking the dog, completing household chores) would require 1500 calories per day. In order to lose just one pound of fat the human body must dispose of 3,500 calories to rid of that one pound of fat. Before you become quickly discouraged, realize that when an individual aims to lose twenty pounds those pounds will not all be pounds of fat as some will be water weight and water weight loss is very simple and comes off quickly.
Continuing on your math journey for weight loss, the key to success is to expend more calories each day than you would consume to lose any weight. If you need to take in 1500 calories to maintain the current weight you are at then you would need to decrease that number by a few hundred each day to lose the pounds. By only consuming 1100 calories per day you would be taking 2800 calories per week away from your body which would be a step in the right direction. If you engage in exercise each week of jogging just three times per week for one hour you would lose an additional 1500 calories on top of your 2800 that you took away from your daily diet, equally a total calorie loss for each at around 4300 calories per week. Those 4300 calories would be a few pounds in the form of two for water weight and one pound of fat each week which is right where you want to be to lose your twenty pounds in the six week allotted time period.
You do not need to be on any crash diet or starve yourself, if you take the time to research online how many calories are in the foods you would be consuming during your weight loss schedule you would find that you can eat quite a bit of food for only 1100 calories per day. The foods that are healthy for you such as green vegetables and fruit are not generally high in calories making it simple to prepare meals for the day and plan your snacks as well. Make meals and snacks for the week in advance and you are sure to lose the weight in your allotted time table and feel great about completing the achievement on your own and in a healthy manner.

Math Study Habit Secrets

Do you or your child find it difficult studying math effectively? Do you continually have low grades in math? If you answer YES to these questions, then this article is for you. I have compiled math study habits secrets for you or your child.

USE THE SYLLABUS / SCHEME OF WORK
You can't do everything at every point in time. It is advisable you do required things at every stage of your life.

Download Exam Drill of Mathematics for Senior High School

You are not expected to pick a text book and begin to learn how to differentiate or integrate a mathematical equation in your first year in secondary school. You are also not expected to waste most of your time solving problems on addition and subtraction of Directed numbers in your final year in secondary school.
You can get to know what is required of you at every stage of your academic life through a detailed syllabus or the scheme of work.
A student in an examination class (a student preparing for a final external examination) should get the detailed syllabus of the examination he intends to write. In the same vein, all students should have the terms' scheme of work on the first page of their mathematics note books. If the teacher fails to give it to them, they should ask or request for it.
It is not advisable for you to go into a personal study period without the syllabus / scheme of work by your side. I will state the advantages of working with the syllabus / scheme of work as mathematics students. Firstly, the syllabus / scheme of work show you at a glance what you're expected to know at every stage of your mathematics life in school. If you know this, you won't waste your time doing what you're not expected to do. Even though you will still end up doing it in future but you have succeeded in wasting your precious time on what you'll not be examined on at that particular time. If after your first year in secondary school, you should have successfully completed ten topics, but you find yourself as a result of misinformation struggling with a topic that is to be offered in the third year, then you'll have yourself to blame if you can't master or have a good understanding of those ten topics.
The syllabus / scheme of work present you the domain where you're to reside at a point in time in your academic life. You may move out of this domain when you must have understood all the topics in your present domain.
Secondly, the syllabus / scheme of work give you the opportunity to look at a glance those topics that are given you problems and which you may require help. You're to tick any topic that you have understood the concept and also that you can easily be examined on. You're also required to note those you're still struggling to grasp.
Thirdly, the syllabus / scheme of work also help you to know your limit on any particular topic. When I say limit I mean areas you're not supposed to touch under any particular topic.
For example, a second year secondary/college student is not expected to go beyond the use of measuring instruments to find angles of elevation and depression. During my school days, I don't toy with the idea of not working with my syllabus / scheme of work. It is a useful tool which many students are not using presently.
SEEK HELP
At particular times in our lives we need the helping hands of somebody. This is applicable to everybody so it is not out of place for anybody to seek help from the right quarters.
Help can come from your mates. You don't have to be ashamed going to your mates for help. They are the closest to offer help. It is only when they cannot find solution to your problem, you can then pay a visit to your teacher - you may even consider getting the needed help from students in higher classes before you go to your teacher.
During my days in school, I feel comfortable seeking help / assistance from my mates. We're familiar with each other and so we can help each other whenever the need arises. Today, I always instruct my students to seek help from their mates before coming to me.
When it finally dawn on you that you can't find a solution to your problem, go after your teacher immediately. Your teacher will be in a position to provide solution to the problem. You should not relent on your effort to solve the problem if the teacher turns you down or fix another appointment with you on your first visit, go to him/her again and again. You may also go to other mathematics teachers in the school if you find it difficult getting the attention of your math teacher. Your major goal is to solve a problem, so you should be ready to go to any length to achieve your aim.
You can also belong to a study group. You can get sufficient help from your study group. You must be sure people in your study group have like minds as yourself. They must be students you know are capable of helping whenever you need help. It is of no use belonging to a study group where most of the students are below average. At least in a study group of six for example, four of the students must be above average.
Help can also come from some other quarters like your brother, sister, your parent, a neighbor, the internet and so on.
So my dear student, seek help today when you need one and avoid committing a great blunder on the day of the examination.

Free Market Economics Versus The Minimum Wage

The minimum wage, or the lowest possible rate at which a worker is paid, is a staple feature of all developed countries. A majority regard this law as an offspring of a greater sense of social responsibility among the big players in a national economy. However, more than just philosophical ideals, any law or proposal should also be subject to scrutiny in as far as its financial or economic feasibility.
Globalization, the process by which the whole world has become interconnected has now reached its peak. Western companies, in the face of increased competition from the outside, are now finding ways to enhance their global competitiveness by minimizing the prime factor that dictates business viability - operation costs.
Today, the global phenomenon of business process outsourcing has taken the front seat. Basically, companies contract labor from outside their companies to do some of their business processes to cut down on capital outlay. Initially, outsourcing was a domestic affair. However, with the advent of the Internet, it has now crossed national borders.

Download Exam Drill of Economics for Senior High School

The outsourcing phenomenon has caused countless headaches to many developed countries. In the United States for example, hundreds of thousands of customer service jobs were lost with the development of VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), a telephone system that makes international calls cost almost the same as local calls. These jobs were moved to offshore locations like Panama, India and the Philippines, as a company can simply pay a foreign representative a tenth of what they would at home.
Even writing jobs, accounting, legal, and pretty much everything else that does not need on-site service can be outsourced offshore. With the existence and strict implementation of the minimum wage law in most countries, local businesses find it difficult to reconcile business needs with government policy. However, a total repeal of the law will expose the average salaried worker to labor abuses that warranted the law's existence to begin with.
With this paradox, is the Minimum Wage Law in need of drastic revisions?
Probably, but it would take one heck of Nobel laureate to find the perfect answer.
For one, the concept of a minimum wage has become deeply ingrained in the consciousness of the average person. However, this leads many multinationals to move jobs overseas in search of cheaper labour.

Online Travel Agent Jobs

As an online travel agent, you will be taking travel bookings for clients from across the world through bigger travel companies. You will be responsible to explain these travel-seekers everything about their travel arrangements and to get their requirements met from the booking companies. Some home travel agents also work by collaborating with different providers for accommodation, transport, tours, etc. and create a whole customized package for their clients.

Download Exam Drill of Geography for Senior High School

Thus, a travel agent's job is to plan out a package in such a way that the traveler doesn't have to face any difficulty during the journey. The work of the travel agent is to make sure any miscommunication doesn't occur and that the trip turns out to be a pleasurable experience for the people who book through them.
Right now, these travel agent jobs are turning out to be quite popular over the Internet. Their online status ensures that people can work from their homes. You don't need any special educational qualification if you are thinking about becoming an online travel agent. Just a high school diploma is sufficient in most cases. However, if you are applying for work through a large travel booking office, you need to be prepared to show some better skills. Language skills do help and so does computer knowledge. You must also have great skills for surfing the Internet and finding information. It is great to have these skills on the resume.
One more thing that you will need is good communication skills. Being a travel agent is more about advising people on what traveling options they have and less about actually booking for these options. You have to tell them how they can make 'package' vacations for themselves before actually going ahead and doing the bookings. In order to make people understand all these things, and to convince them for particular destinations, accommodations, food packages, etc., you need to be good at communication skills.
It is also a great thing if you are good with geography. You don't need to know the whole world's geography, but if you are dealing in travel for a particular part of the world, you should at least know well about the geography of that place.
So, how do you get one of these travel agent jobs? The direct way is to visit a local travel agency and see if they hire travel agents that can work online. These people will be affiliated for that travel agency and will be working exclusively for that. Or, you could also do a regular search on the Internet and see what options you have for being a travel agent. You make money doing something you will really love. However, as in any other job, you will need to learn the ropes first.

Experience Gender Physics at the Movies

The film depicts a westerner experiencing the brutality of Turkish prison guards - surely masculine energy run amok - but the peace and tranquility he creates for himself under such conditions is feminine energy at its best. That's Gender Physics: develop and embrace the two energies within yourself, and use the most appropriate energy for the circumstances to establish your most rewarding life.
In terms of their power, movies in themselves are a form of feminine energy. In that way, Hollywood exercises more educational power than Harvard over everyday, working people. A movie like Schindler's List allowed more people to understand the realities of the Holocaust than any History 101 lecture ever could. That kind of receptive power is the opposite of the striving, unemotional power of the masculine - but it can still be complimentary to it. We just need to be aware of which power is appropriate for the situation.

An example of positive masculine power in the movies is Braveheart. Mel Gibson plays the role of William Wallace, a medieval Scottish hero who takes up arms against the English after his wife is murdered. The energy of the commanding, raw masculine power is depicted in the famous Battle of Stirling scene, in which he rallies the troops and defeats the superior English force.
By contrast, consider the feminine power of Oskar Schindler in Schindler's List. During the Second World War, the businessman and war profiteer saved over a thousand Jews from extermination by creating a list of essential workers for his factories and then forming relationships with the Nazis to gain support. He used feminine energy to get his way when he had no outward, external power.
The Sound of Music is another classic movie, and I just love to watch it at the lake in the summertime. Here, the masculine energy of the military is pitted against the feminine energy of culture and ideas. Remember when Maria meets Captain Von Trapp, and he's ordering the children around with a military whistle? He lords over them like a drill sergeant, but she wins them over through creative story-telling and song. Their family was out of balance with masculine energy but she entered, soothed their hurts, and provided music. In the end this addition of feminine energy saved the family.
Neither energy is enough on its own. Take the actions of Sidney Poitier's character in To Sir with Love. He is a hard-nosed, unemployed engineer who finds himself working as a high-school teacher, attempting to get through to a bunch of unruly teenagers. First, he tries the feminine energy approach by caring deeply about them. After a display of masculine energy, the students fall into line, and the learning truly begins. The language of the masculine was all the students knew growing up, so he had to start there to communicate with them. Once he aligned the masculine and feminine energy he had great success.
As demonstrated by these movies, sometimes we need a prevalence of one of these energies to accomplish our goals. We can start by respecting what the two energies have to offer and accepting both - and that means developing our opposite. It's time to step forward and embrace it.

English Cream Golden Retriever Puppies

It wasn't until over one hundred years after the golden retriever breed was developed that the UK Kennel Club officially revised their standards to include the cream color. I don't know what standards they were using, but in my standards, it's one of the prettiest hue to have on a golden retriever. Just wait till you see an English cream golden retriever puppy and you will certainly be smitten! You will totally be hypnotized if you were to take him into your hands.

Yes, it's totally legal and they are that dear! In fact, I have a hunch that the cream little cuties that are goldens have the greatest demand. Woe unto you if you don't line up to your nearest breeder early enough for you will certainly miss out.
Their dark round eyes and burly sturdy body will blow you off your mind. Not forgetting the sweet and calm temperament and the energy.
Let's just be clear here; I have heard of some folks who have been duped by some breeders when looking for white golden retriever puppies and have instead been given some cream ones. Well, First of all, count yourself lucky for this is as close as you are getting to a white pedigree golden. Second, "white" dogs are just hybrids and they are not even allowed in dog shows.
I know, I had the 'white doggy thing' too, but this should not be any reason to label the white kind as special. Some breeders (who are from Jupiter) are going to pull a fast one on you if they reckon that you don't have the information. Get a lot of info before you set out and for the love of God, don't purchase without seeing the dog. The deposits are mostly non-refundable!
The English type dogs seem to have the cream color in many cases as opposed to the American type. In fact in the American dog shows, the color cream is used to identify the English golden retrievers. They are accepted in the American shows by the way. Beware, your little champ will be all over the house and the compound doing some 'not-so-good-retrievals'. And they love the water and all kinds of water catchments (and even muck!). So the dirt on his or her beautiful cream coat of will be so conspicuous. If you are already sold out to the breed, welcome to the club!

An Easy Cure For "Math Phobia"

Why is it that one person enjoys math, while another person hates it?
Why does one child happily and quickly calculate a simple sum, while another won't even attempt it because they're convinced they're simply "no good with numbers"?
The problem certainly isn't caused by lack of intelligence.
In fact there are many examples throughout history of seemingly "stupid" people who could do amazing things with numbers.

Download Exam Drill of Mathematics for Senior High School

Take the case of Jedediah Buxton (1702-1772), an illiterate laborer who became famous for his number skills. His employer once asked him:
"In a body whose 3 sides are 23,145,789 yards, 5,642,732 yards, and 54,965 yards, how many cubical eighths of an inch are there?"
Before giving the answer, Buxton asked "which end" of the 28-digit answer he should start at, as he could recite it just as easily forwards or backwards!
Of course, mathematical prodigies are born, not made. But it does beg the question:
"If somebody who can't even read or write is able to perform these kinds of breathtaking calculations, what stops other people from doing even simple sums?"
Young children naturally enjoy numbers. And even people who now have an intense dislike for math often say they once enjoyed it.
What has happened to them is generally an unfortunate event in their past.
Perhaps they were ridiculed for a mistake they made with numbers, in front of the entire class.
Whatever the specific reason, bad experiences with numbers left an emotional scar, which developed into a phobia to keep the sufferer safe from further harm.
The point here is that if you have "math phobia" or "math block", it isn't a permanent state of mind.
As a perfectly normal, healthy human being, you can do math and enjoy it as much as anyone.
You just need to ignore the disliking attitude and actually try manipulating a few numbers from time to time.
Start with something easy, like adding small numbers in your head, or on paper if you prefer.
Next time you get some change in the shop, check it's correct. Or better still, reckon up the change you expect while you are waiting to pay.
Avoid perfectionism, especially in the early stages. Realize there are two ways of working with numbers: approximate and exact. Often, an approximate answer is all you need.
For example, when you pick up a grocery item priced at $3.98, just call it "four dollars". The next thing you pick up in the shop is priced at $7.95, so call that "eight dollars". Add them together and you now expect to pay "nearly twelve dollars".
The cure for math phobia is to allow a few numbers back into your life. Don't make a big thing of them, just do whatever you feel comfortable with.
To summarize:
1. Recognize you have an aversion to math, whether it's full-blown math phobia or just a few math blocks here and there.
2. Make a conscious decision to do something about it.
3. Give yourself a regular math workout, however small to start with.
You'll find it all gets easier, and you'll soon enjoy math once again.

Mental Math Strategies Middle School

Mathematics is one of the problem areas in most schools. Many students fail this subject or do not have interest. Math does not have to be hard, as there are simple calculations that you can perform in your head to be good at the subject.
This is referred to as mental maths where most calculations are done in your head. Some of the methods that you can use to practice and learn this field are:
Memorizing time tables- this is one of the oldest methods to learn mental maths. It helps one to make simple multiplication problems. Although it is an effective process it has limitations especially when one is dealing with big numbers. This is because most tables deal with two digit numbers thus one cannot be able to multiply numbers that have three digits or more. This is a disadvantage especially in some countries like India, where students are discouraged from using gadgets like calculators in the exam rooms.

One of the formal methods of learning maths is by using Abacus mental maths. This method traces its roots to Asia. This teaches students to practice basic calculations like subtraction, division addition and multiplication. Here you are able to deal with big numbers where you can perform calculations on long and large numbers. You can also be able to come up with square roots and squares of some problems. The latter however depends on the division or multiplication. This is taught using old century tools known as Abacus.

Another method used is known as verdict mental maths. Teachers use old scriptures that were used in India to teach the subject. No tools are used to teach the subject. This is a more advanced mode of learning as you not only learn the simple calculations but you also learn complex maths like geometry, statistics and algebra. This helps one to solve complex and advanced problems with ease. This should be taught at an early age so that the children can use them in future without any problem. This is where you can find a student finishing their maths exam within a very short time and getting good grades.

Natural Sciences Vs Social Sciences

Science is a thought process combined with data. But, what is a natural science and what is a social science?

What is science?

Science, all science, the process of gaining knowledge through experimentation. Science is a methodology used to understand our world.

Download Link Drill of UN SMA/MTs 2011 - Natural Sciences

Natural sciences and social sciences are different only in what they study.

Natural sciences

Natural sciences are sometimes called the hard sciences. These are subjects such as chemistry, physics, astronomy, biology, earth science, atmospheric science, materials science, and oceanography.

These fields all study the world and how it works.
Chemistry is the study of matter. When you study chemistry, you learn about what makes up matter, atoms. You learn about atomic structure and how molecules form and bond. You learn how matter reacts and changes state.

Earth science is the study of planet Earth. This field studies soil, geology, minerals, rocks, precious stones, plate tectonics and volcanoes, among other topics.
Astronomy is the study of the formation and development of the universe, planets, comets, stars, galaxies, celestial mechanics, red shift, blue shift, and everything else that happens in space.

Biology is the study of living things. How to bodies work? What's different between a plant and a monkey?

Social science

Social sciences still use the same methodologies as natural sciences. Data is found and analyzed. The biggest difference for social sciences is, however, that social sciences deal with people.
Anthropology deals with how people interact with other people and how our cultures work.
Archaeology studies remnants of buried civilizations.
Economics is the study of money, the production of goods, and the distribution of those goods.
Human geography studies how humans are distributed on the earth and how we change and manage the earth.
Education can be a science too. People study which methods are best for learning.
History is the study of the past. Since history requires the written records and anything before then is prehistory, history is also the study of people-people of the past.
Linguistics is the study of human language. How did language develop? When do kids learn to speak? How do we learn multiple languages? How does language evolve over time?
Political science deals with politics. Politics concerns itself about how stuff is distributed among people. Psychology is the study of our brains. Sociology is the study of our societies and how people relate and interact with each other. How do humans behave in society?
So, again, the natural sciences deal with the study of the universe and the earth. Social sciences deal with people.

Climate in Indonesia

Indonesia has a tropical climate with two seasons; dry and monsoon. The best time to travel is from April to October as this is the dry season. The monsoon season is from November to March, and for certain islands such as Bali, it is fine to travel during these months. In terms of temperature, there's little difference between the winter and summer on most of the islands, with temperatures averaging 25C-30C all year round.

Download Link Drill of UN SMA/MTs 2011 - Indonesia Language

Sumatra and Java

The best time to travel to Sumatra and Java is from May to September. The monsoon season lasts from November until March, with most of the rain falling in the late afternoon. It is best to avoid travelling to Sumatra during these months as the monsoon rains can be very heavy, making roads inaccessible. Temperatures average 22-29 degrees all year round.

Bali

The dry season on Bali lasts from April until September, with May, June and July being the coolest months when temperatures 'drop' to 28C. The monsoon season starts in October and lasts until March, but in between the monsoon showers you can expect clear blue skies and plenty of sunshine. The best time to go on a Bali adventure tour is in the drier, cooler months from May until August, with high temperatures during the day and cooler evenings.

Nusa Tenggara (Lombok, Flores, the Gilis)

The difference between the dry and wet season is bigger here than in other areas of Indonesia. The driest months are August and September, the wettest are November and February. The duration of the dry and wet seasons varies per island. The climate on Lombok is similar to Bali, and the same goes for Sumbawa and Flores. Generally, the closer to Australia you get, the longer the dry season.

Sulawesi

The South-West has its monsoon season from October to March. In the North, around Manado, most of the rain falls between June and July, but the dry season lasts from August until October. Temperatures can vary significantly; along the coast it can be very hot with temperatures of around 34C, whereas the hills can be cool with a maximum around 24C, cool enough to need a jumper in the evening.

Learn English Language

To learn English language, we have two basic options: take online English courses or go to the traditional brick and mortar language schools. In both options, there are pros and cons; and the benefits to be enjoyed actually depend on which option we're most comfortable with.
Our decision can be based on several factors: the proximity of the actual land-based language school, course levels being offered, study materials to be used per course level, competence of the instructors, teacher-student ratio and course fees.
For most people though, who want to take English lessons, going with online courses is the better option.

English Online Courses

English courses online are offered at different competency levels. The general levels of English courses cover pre-elementary, elementary, intermediate up to advanced levels. There are also English courses for professionals who want to learn English language.

The courses can run from as little as twenty hours up to one hundred and fifty hours, depending on the course of our choice. We can start from beginning courses and finish up to the advanced courses; or we can also take one course at a time spread over a specific period of time, depending on what is convenient and comfortable for us.

If we only need a little brushing up on our English skills, we can jump straight to the advanced courses. On the other hand, if we are unsure of our exact level of competency we can have our English skills assessed first by the tutors or through online English schools. These services are usually free.

Advantages of Online Courses

There are many advantages for learning the English language on the internet. For one thing, we have the convenience of learning from our own homes. We only need to have a working computer, appropriate web applications and a reliable internet connection.
Secondly, we won't be self-conscious, particularly if we are not yet very confident when it comes to speaking the English language. We can also save on time and money since we don't have to spend on gasoline or fares to reach the class.
Now here's the clincher: there are free learning materials that we can readily view and download online. This means that if we want to go the other way and learn English language by ourselves, we can start with the free materials being offered online.

We can learn proper grammar and spelling, among many other options. There are even fun games that we can play where English lessons are incorporated. Whatever we decide on, if we are truly set on learning English language, there are plenty of options available for us.

Whether online or in land-based language schools, developing our English skills will definitely help us in our work, travels, communications and even college courses.

Why Go to College or a Public University?

With all that's happening on college and public universities is it really necessary for you to send your child to higher learning facilities? While I do see the impact of higher education and the benefits it can bring to "post-high" school graduates the concerns of safety always come to mind. With today's crimes and shootings on both the high school level and college or public universities should you be thinking alternatives for your child? With today's technology is it really necessary for your child to go to a college or public university? The internet is here to stay and education is right in the comfort of your own home. There's nothing better than being able to inspire and educate your children in both atmospheres. Remember, all of life is an on going education.
Think about it, while most of your local and national chain businesses are downsizing and promoting from within their own family trees if it's a family owned business, I wonder sometimes why go to college or public university? Now, I know in some fields of professions you would surely have to send your child away to a particular school to advance their education. I have always seen the need for professions and how important it is to go to school to become a prominent doctor, lawyer, engineer, post-secondary educator, or etc. It's necessary to have some sort of diploma, certificate, degree, license or vocational education experience behind you; higher education is a must today. As a parent you want to encourage your child to love and pursue higher education.
The need is staggering, while most "low-paying" jobs demand an associate degree or better, why not suggest to your child to get educated to expand their own career choices, instead of letting them think they will get a higher education to work for "corporate" America. Think outside the box and consider getting your child educated to benefit their own career of choice to advance their own learning abilities to be able to compete in the work force of today. The education you give your child or children now and in the years to come, will be the best education they could ever get, and it won't come from a book or a public setting; neither will it cost much financially; because it's all free and came from the heart.
Your child or children are an asset to you and not a liability. Look, Children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of your womb is a reward. Psalm 127:3. If you are struggling with your parental rights and responsibilities sign-up to receive tips on life in general and I can help you with your parenting concerns.
